Mervyn Woodrow is an author, artist, lecturer and one-time Arab horse breeder. He was diagnosed with Macular Degeneration, which means that he is no longer able to read. With the help of his wife, Freda, he has created a powerful novel (Behind the Mountain), a collection of short stories (Drinkers of the Wind), and an anthology of verse (With Love from Grampa). Mervyn grew up with his grandparents on a farm behind the Zoutpansberg. His working life started as the Art Master at King Edwards School (K.E.S) in Johannesburg. Thereafter he taught for a couple of years at the Teachers’ Training College in Pretoria, and eventually he retired from the University of Pretoria as a Senior English Lecturer. He has exhibited paintings with the SA Arts Association in Pretoria,Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town.
